Late Saturday Thunder
Showers and thunderstorms moved through parts of Minnesota yesterday with quite a stir. Here was the radar at 11:30 pm as storms were moving into the Twin Cities west metro with gusty winds and continuous lightning.
The heaviest of the rain was found on the southwestern side of the city as the line moved through central and southern Minnesota, but severe storm reports were found as far north as Cloquet, MN. There were even a couple of tornado touchdowns in Grant and Pope county in west central Minnesota. See the storm report map below.
Here are the tornado and funnel cloud reports from west central Minnesota on Saturday
Sunday Thunder Potential
Here's the 6 hourly precipitation accumulation (from 1pm to 7pm Sunday) - note the heaviest precipitation seems to stay in far southern Minnesota.
What's Next?
The extended forecast for Monday and Tuesday shows some pleasant weather, but thunder chances return along with the heat and humidity on Wednesday. Note the green box - Wednesday's rain chance - it shows a 65% chance of rain. It appears that this rain chance may be accompanied by some strong thundershowers. Temperatures this week will also be quite warm. We're likely to see readings in the 80s most days this week.
Have a good Sunday - Todd Nelson
