Unusual October Snow

Our unusual October snow has been subject of disgust and discontent as of late with record and near record snowfall amounts being set. Saturday's snowfall of 0.9" at the St. Cloud Airport set a daily snowfall record, but Monday's snowfall of 1.6" was 2.0" shy of a record for the 12th of October. Regardless of the amount, it's a little unusual to see snow this early in the season. We've only seen three other dates with measurable snow earlier than yesterday:

1.) 0.2" on September 21, 1995
2.) 0.4" on October 9, 1970
3.) 0.9" on October 10, 2009
4.) 3.6" on October 12, 1969 & 1.6" on October 12, 2009

The rest of the week looks to stay unsettled with more scattered snow and light rain showers. Here's the weather map for Thursday afternoon - note how most of the moisture stay west of the the area.

October Numbers:
Temperatures so far through the first 12 days of the month are running nearly 9.0 degrees cooler than average and almost 2.8" above normal precipitation.

Todd's Outlook for greater St. Cloud

Tuesday: Mix of clouds and sun and cold. High: 40

Tuesday Night: Increasing clouds, slight chance of light snow developing. Low: 31

Wednesday: Light rain/snow mix possible. High: 40

Thursday: Slight chance of spotty light rain showers. (possibly mixed with wet snow north of Brainerd). High: 41

Friday: Mostly cloudy with spotty rain showers, still cold. High: 45

Saturday: Brighter and warmer: High near 50

Sunday: Sunny, even warmer. High mid 50's
