Hope you are enjoying your first weekend of Fall... can you tell that things are changing? The Autumnal Equinox was Friday, which coincides with equal days and equal nights. Our nearly 12 hours of daylight is down about 3.5 hours from the longest days of the year in mid to late June. The increasingly longer and cooler nights have triggered the slow breakdown of chlorophyll in trees near you, which masks the true color of the leaves. Anthocyanins are responsible for the sugary red colors you see in sugar maples, while tannins and carotenoid compounds reveal more yellow or brown colors found in birch, aspen/poplar and oak.
This truly is one of my favorite times of year, not only because of the beautiful colors, but I also like wearing flip flops in the car and when it's cold, I can blast the heater to make my toes all toasty warm... Is that a little weird?
A stubborn storm in the upper levels of the atmosphere has cut itself off from the stronger upper winds, so it's movement is nearly stationary over the Great Lakes. Cool, cloudy and sometimes damp weather will rotate our way through early next week, but sun and 70s return next week too - Todd Nelson

Video of Satellite Falling on Car
Smile, you're on candid camera! This is hilarious, I hope you get a little laugh out of this too!

Where Did UARS Land?
NASA's abandoned 6-ton UARS Satellite probably crashed in the northern Pacific Ocean, the space agency said today -- though it conceded it did not know precisely where any remains may have come down. It said it did not believe anyone on the ground was injured.

Tropical Systems
Boy, the tropics are sure active! Take a look at all the systems out there.

Closer to Home
The same, stubborn storm system is sitting in the Great Lakes with cool, cloudy and damp weather. I don't see this thing moving out until sometime next week.

Storm Continues to Pump Out Rain
The 3 day rainfall forecast from the HPC shows that nearly 2" to 3" of rain could fall in spots from this same storm. Fall is definitely starting off on a soggy note around the Great Lakes.

That's all for now, thanks for checking in - enjoy the rest of your weekend!
